Company Takes a New Spin on Home Decor

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 15, 2011

It’s not every day that we rave about the latest trends in home decor. That kind of excitement’s left for fashion, until now. Teenlike is a new community based home decor company that has an ongoing design competition, where members of the online community decide what designs they love, and when a designer wins, they receive a $ 500 cash prize, plus residuals, and their design gets printed on products like sheet sets, duvet covers and rugs.

The idea for Teenlike came about after observing the lack of options in home decor for young people. Certain existing establishments in recent years have done a better job at catering to this unique demographic, but the founder of Teenlike feels that the options available to girls and boys are based merely on teenage stereotypes and limits their ability to truly express themselves through their rooms.

“There’s no doubt there are boys who are avid sports fans, and have favorite teams that they root for,” says Roland Ghetty, the founder of Teenlike, “but that doesn’t mean they want logos of their favorite teams printed on their decor. And not all girls want pink pastel decor or white polka dot prints either. We have to stop labeling teens and give them a voice in the concept phase rather than at the retail store.”

When it comes to making something appealing to young people, the last thing that comes to mind is home decor, and some let their parents do the picking. Teenlike hopes to change that, but they know making home decor “cool” will be an uphill battle.

Great post! I?m just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well – resources like this article are incredibly helpful. As our company is based in the US, it?s all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in that case
